IPC-2581 – the open industry standard: the complete product model in one XML file.
IPC-2581 is an open, vendor-neutral XML standard for the complete exchange of PCB design and manufacturing data in a single file. It describes layers, nets, padstacks, components, stackup, drills and manufacturing specifications in one schema-defined XML document.
It is published by IPC, the international electronics manufacturing trade association. The standard evolved from the older GenCAM (IPC-2511) and has been driven since 2011 by a broad industry consortium as a deliberately open alternative to ODB++ – also marketed as DPMX (“Digital Product Model Exchange”).

Open the file (.xml, .cvg, .zip) directly – the revision stored in the file (A/B/C) is read out. If the file has the .ipc extension, EFA CAMverse detects from the content whether it is IPC-2581 or an IPC-D-356 netlist.
Toggle layers, highlight nets with a double-click, read stackup and drill tables, inspect components – and switch to the 3D view with one click.

Toggle every layer and read the material build-up – if the explicit stackup block is missing, the stackup view is built from the layer roles.

View the assembly data contained in the file: components with references, bounding rectangle and centre – the basis for assembly views and the bill of materials.

Panel files are displayed as well – the individual boards appear at their positions within the panel.

IPC-2581 vs. ODB++Both carry an intelligent full model. The difference is governance: IPC-2581 is an open IPC standard anyone may implement freely – ODB++ is controlled by one vendor (Siemens EDA).
