Bill of materials and placement positions – straight from the CAM data.

For costing, purchasing and quotation you need the bill of materials with ordering data and the placement positions. EFA CAMverse takes both from ODB++, IPC-2581, KiCad and 5 more formats – as an Excel file or CSV, without retyping.

Example: automatically grouped bill of materials
Bill of materials

The bill of materials the way purchasing and costing need it.

One click on “Bill Of Material”, choose the grouping, save – and the basis for your request and quotation is ready.

  • Ordering data included: quantity, references, value, package, manufacturer, MPN, customer and internal part number (CPN/IPN), supplier with order number, description and placement side.
  • Every other attribute as well: tolerance, voltage, RoHS status, datasheet, prices or the order numbers of further distributors – each attribute of the source data as a column of its own, named as in the source data.
  • Cleanly separated: components with differing properties – such as a different tolerance – get a line of their own with their own quantity.
  • Only what gets placed: components marked as not placed in EAGLE or KiCad data are left out of the bill of materials.
  • Tidy: references sorted naturally (R1, R2, R10), empty columns are omitted.

Grouping

  • AutomaticEFA CAMverse groups identical parts
  • Value and packagematching parts in one line
  • No groupingone line per component

For panels

  • Single circuitone circuit, references without suffix
  • Panel (multi-up)all circuits, reference with the number of its board – e.g. R12#3
Placement positions

The coordinate list for pick-and-place and process planning.

A second click – “Coordinate data” – turns the same data into the list of placement positions.

  • One line per component: reference, X, Y, rotation, side, value and package – in millimetres; if component heights are available, Z as well.
  • Technical attributes as well: tolerance, voltage and further technical information of the source data as separate columns.
  • Positions as in the layout: EFA CAMverse takes the placement point and rotation of the source data; for Gerber X3 and Gerber with a coordinate file, the component centre.
  • Panels included: one single circuit or every circuit with positions converted into the panel.

Choose the file format when saving; if you like, EFA CAMverse opens the file right away.

Excel workbook (.xlsx)

Preselected – created without extra software

  • Header row bold and frozen
  • Filter on every column
  • Column widths matching the content
  • Numbers as real numbers – ready to calculate

CSV file (.csv)

For ERP, inventory management and your own analyses

  • UTF-8 – umlauts and special characters are preserved
  • Separator and decimal sign according to your Windows region settings
  • Texts in quotation marks, numbers without

Prerequisite: what appears in the bill of materials and the coordinate list has to be contained in the source data – e.g. as component attributes. Whatever is included, EFA CAMverse takes over completely into the bill of materials; technical information additionally appears in the coordinate list.

Source formats

From every format with components.

How much ordering data ends up in the bill of materials depends on what the source data provides. IPC-D-356 contains no components – so there is no bill of materials for it.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions about BoM and coordinates

Bill of materials from ODB++ data?

Open the ODB++ package, click “Bill Of Material” in the “Output” tab, choose the grouping and save as an Excel file or CSV. The same works with IPC-2581, KiCad, EAGLE, PADS, GenCAD, Gerber X3 and DXF.

What is in the bill of materials?

The ordering data (quantity through placement side) and every other attribute of the source data as a column of its own – commercial and technical. Components with differing properties get lines of their own.

And for panels?

For panels from ODB++, IPC-2581 or GenCAD, choose single circuit or panel (multi-up); with multi-up, each reference carries the number of its board (e.g. R12#3) and the positions are converted into the panel.

Why does the CSV file fit Excel right away?

Because EFA CAMverse takes the separator and decimal sign from your Windows region settings – the same ones your Excel uses. The file is UTF-8 encoded.

Is the export free?

EFA CAMverse is free to use as a viewer. The export of bill of materials and coordinates is one of the advanced features you unlock whenever you need them.

And the assembly plan?

From the same data, EFA CAMverse creates the assembly drawing – matching the customer variant. To assembly drawing & variants →
